Oil Portraits

I am interested in creating likenesses that express something of the character or spirit or quirkiness of a person. I often place the subject off center within the frame of the canvas to create imagined space for movement and interaction between the subject and the viewer. I am drawn to using the play of strong light and shadow across a face to emphasize the forms and folds that make each face unique.
